Culinary Student-Run Restaurant in Downtown Tacoma
We learned today that Bates Technical College’s Culinary Arts career program is now offering a “student-run fine dining service” beginning next Tuesday, June 16th. The dining room is located at 1101 South Yakima Avenue in the Cascade Room and will be open to the public from from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, Tuesday through Thursday.
The dining service features an a la carte, made to order menu of items not offered in the college’s cafeteria. The Cascade Room offers patrons classic cuisine with a modern twist. Menu choices include starters such as stuffed artichoke; marinated shrimp; spring lettuce salad; tomato with fresh mozzarella and basil oil. Sample entrees include grilled sea scallops; stuffed lamb chop; wild salmon noisettes with ginger peach glaze; and sweet onion tart strip loin of beef with tomato horseradish emulsion.
The average price of a three course meal is $12.
I think we need to support our local culinary school a bit more often …

Sometime supporting students is a real sacrifice.
Kidding. I’m in! I’ve heard about these programs in other cities and I was always jealous.

They had this in Portland when I lived there. Good stuff!
