D Street Overpass Open to Traffic

The D Street Overpass (at D Street and Puyallup Ave) has been in the works for some time, and two lanes of it should be drivable by 2:00 pm this afternoon.

The overpass is part of a large series of transportation and connectivity improvements. It should provide better pedestrian access between the Dome District and the Thea Foss Waterway an it will facilitate faster speeds for trains going underneath it. It will put an end to the lengthy train delays that used to block D Street to car traffic.

Look also for some cool traffic barriers in the shape of tugboats to come soon.

Now after spending a few hours at Alfred’s it’s a whole lot easier to head down the hill to Johnny’s. Brilliant!

It’s open now! The D Street team was the first to drive over it.

Supervalu employees were cheering as they were allowed across.

    HOORAY!

Trains will be able to move up to 30 miles an hour faster courtesy of this transportation improvement.
