Daily Dim Sum: 5 Little Stories to Start Your Day
Rotator Magazine
If you’re looking for a little eye candy that also provides some food for thought, you’ll want to check out Rotator magazine, the latest project from Lance Kagey (of Beautiful Angle) and a cast of other extremely talented characters. If you’re familiar with the previous work of Kagey and others involved, you know that aside from being a treat to look at, Rotator will offer more than empty calories. Check out the online version at www.rotatormagazine.com or stop by the Fulcrum Gallery to pick up your own hard copy. Our friends over at Post Defiance also did an in depth review of Rotator Magazine.
Interdisciplinarity and Sustainability Lectures
This Wednesday the University of Washington, Tacoma will be presenting the third in their Interdisciplinarity and Sustainability lecture series, with Joe Lawless from the Center for Leadership and Social Responsibility speaking on “The economics of sustainability.” The lectures are free to the public, and will all be held in UWT’s new Joy Building on Pacific Avenue. This is a great opportunity to hear some new ideas and check out the University’s new space. Details on the series at www.tacoma.wa.edu.
Tacoma: Consider yourself occupied
The second Occupy Tacoma protest march took place over the weekend, and the movement appears to be swelling in numbers. The group gathered, several hundred strong, in People’s Park on Saturday, and marched down the hill to Tollefson Plaza (as a quick sidebar, if you’ve ever wondered what Tollefson would look like filled with people, check out the last minute or so of the video posted on the Occupy Tacoma website). The second protest, like the first, was peaceful, and as a smaller group occupies a park at 21st and Pacific, more are in the works. Read more from The News Tribune about the Occupy Tacoma march.
Mountain Muesli
Mountain Muesli, one of the most recent additions to Tacoma’s small business community is turning out just the kind of product we like to see: locally made, largely locally sourced, and tasty. The funny sounding cereal good and good for you, and available in select stores around town, and as far away as Bellevue and Gig Harbor. So, if your morning cup of coffee is almost gone, and you’re starting to think about second breakfast (we know we are) maybe today’s a good day to pass up the candy stash in that desk drawer (yep, we know it’s there) and try something healthy. For more information, read The News Tribune article on this Tacoma muesli business, or check out www.mountainmuesli.com.
Free Zoo Days
Tuesday, October 18th will be a free admission day for seniors and people with disabilities. If you or someone you know falls into either of those categories, this is your chance for a cheap date. If you don’t qualify for Tuesday’s free admission, never fear, Wednesday, October 26th is free admissions day for anyone living within Tacoma city limits. Check out the details at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium website.
