Way to Go Tagro!
File it under “We can’t believe we missed this!” We know proclamations and announcements are everyone’s favorite part of City Council meetings, and we missed a great one a couple weeks ago:
Mr. Dan Thompson, Public Works employee and board member of the Northwest Biosolids Management Association, presented the City with the 2011 Excellence in Biosolids Management Award.
We’re huge fans of the Tagro program, and it’s great to see them get this recognition. Read some of the great things the NBMA had to say about Tagro. Now that’s some good… nevermind.
Special Monday Tacoma Farmers’ Market
If you were just wondering how you were going to make it all the way until Thursday without fresh farmers’ market produce, or if you won’t be able to make this Thursday’s final Broadway market, Tacoma Farmers’ Market has a “Mini” Market planned for midday today. From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. this first of two “Mini” Markets on the MultiCare Campus in the parking lot across from Wright Park will feature 10 local vendors. Visit the Tacoma Farmers’ Market Facebook page for more information.
TNT Gardens to See
In the Northwest we know we have to take advantage of every sunny day we get pretty much anytime after September, so with that in mind, here’s a little thought for the next few days of what is forecast to be pretty decent weather: The News Tribune last week published their list of Six secret gardens you can visit in Tacoma. This is a fun little list of hidden gems you might not see if you didn’t walk down that street, but we know there are more out there in Tacoma. Maybe you’ve got a favorite gem you’d like to share. Or maybe you’re keeping them to yourself. Either way, we recommend you take advantage of the sun, and take a little walk…
Tacoma Mountaineers Aims for New Heights
The Olympian this weekend published a story about the Tacoma Mountaineers’ plans for a $1.25 million transformation of their Old Town “clubhouse” into a sparkling new, much larger “South Sound Program Center.” The vision of the new Center includes improved amenities, increased space, and even the possibility of indoor and outdoor climbing walls and a green roof. The Mountaineers is one of those quiet Tacoma institutions that can so easily be taken for granted as they go about the work of strengthening our community. These latest plans by the 99 year-old group, which include explicit plans for outreach, partnership and collaboration with other community organizations, are yet another example of the value of their commitment to this work.

New 1022 Menu
This past Saturday, October 22nd 1022 South, one of our favorite watering holes, introduced a new menu, complete with seasonal cocktails guaranteed to amuse your palate. If you missed Saturday’s event, never fear, we’re guessing there will be plenty more winter days to warm up with their hand-crafted elixirs. Maybe we’ll see you there…

Cheers!
