Murray Morgan Update

The Murray Morgan Bridge will be back in action today, according to a City of Tacoma update. The bridge will be raised and lowered to lubricate cables before being left in the closed position to facilitate next steps towards bridge deck removal and replacement. Vessels requiring more than the 57-ish feet of clearance the bridge allows in the closed position will need to give 2 hours notice to the operator to raise the mid-span. If you’re curious about Murray Morgan goings-on, you can watch the live, action-packed webcam, or read project details from the City’s Murray Morgan Bridge project page. The next public meeting on the project is scheduled for this Wednesday, November 2, 2011.
Mini Farmers’ Market at Multicare Today
Stop by the Multicare parking lot (across from Wright Park) between 11 and 3 today for a chance to support your local farmer and pick up some fresh produce from the mini Farmers’ Market. With the Broadway Market now closed for 2011, this is your last chance until Saturday’s Proctor Market.
Tacoma and Pierce County Photo Contest
The Tacoma Regional Convention & Visitor Bureau is asking for your best pictures of Tacoma and Pierce County. The Bureau wants to see photos that capture the natural beauty of the region, and they’re offering a grand prize of a getaway package to Crystal Mountain, complete with hotel stay, breakfast and gondola rides for two. So gather your best photos, or run out and snap a few new ones, and don’t forget to check out the contest rules (and some recent submissions for inspiration) at www.traveltacoma.com. The contest runs through November 21st. And if you think you’ve got a winner, go ahead and share it with us – we’d love to see it (even after the 21st).
More Construction on SR-16
Work should be starting this week on the next phase of the SR-16 interchange over the Nalley Valley. The project promises to ultimately improve the flow of traffic, and pave the way (ha ha) for eventual HOV lanes. It also promises what the DOT refers to as “traffic adjustments:”
During construction, drivers will experience traffic adjustments similar to the Westbound Nalley Valley project. Motorists will see realigned and narrowed lanes, night lane and ramp closures and limited closures of all lanes on eastbound SR 16 when cranes lift girders for the new viaduct.
Read more about the project from the WSDOT website.
