Humane Society Pet of the Week

The Humane Society regularly features a dog/cat of the week for adoption, and every once in a while we need our cute animal fix, so we thought we’d share this week’s featured pet: Misty. She’s a five year old Chihuahua mix who enjoys quiet homes, mature company, and snuggling on warm laps.  If you’re interested in taking her home, check her out on the Humane Society Facebook page

Korsmo Recognized for Community Work

Korsmo Construction from Tacoma has been awarded the 2011 Corporations for Communities award in honor of their charitable work in the community.  The award recognizes businesses that do good work in Washington State communities without receiving monetary or political gain.  Korsmo projects have included a Special Olympics swim meet, building beds for the Tacoma YWCA shelter, and Korsmo’s contributions to the Lakewood “Fallen Officers Memorial.”  We’d like to congratulatie Korsmo, and thank them for all they do.

For more about the award, or if you know an organization that should be honored, visit the Secretary of State’s website.

Tacoma Runners – for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Tonight the Tacoma Runners are dedicating their weekly run to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  The group, which you may know for the infamous pink tutu, plans to turn the expected turn out of 50+ runners into “a sea of pink” as they run 3 miles through downtown Tacoma.  All are welcome, so check out their Facebook event page, or show up at The Social Bar and Grill tonight by 6:30 for a run followed by drinks.  And don’t forget your pink.

EFN Abundance Auction

This Saturday, October 23rd the Emergency Food Network will be hosting its annual Abundance Auction, with dinner and many biddable items.  All proceeds go to support the important work EFN does in the Pierce County community.  We realize that this is short notice, but we also realize that some of you fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants, devil-may-care kids may not have fully booked your weekend, and perhaps you’re looking for a way to fill your Saturday night.  If it’s anything like past EFN auctions, this wouldn’t be a bad way to go.  For more information, check out the EFN website.

Next-to-Last Broadway Farmer’s Market

Today is your next to last chance for the year to pick up lovely, fresh and local produce and crafts from the Broadway Farmer’s Market.  After next week’s final market of 2011, you’ll have to wait until next spring to stroll through the stalls and support the vendors.  We recommend you go this week and next week, so that you’re not left with the ultimate dilemma between Gateway to India and the burrito truck for lunch – one today, the other next Thursday – it’s perfect.  Oh, and don’t forget to grab one of those gorgeous bouquets for that special someone…
