Davita To Stay in Tacoma

As many of you know, Davita has been looking for a new northwest headquarters. Beginning with an RFP released last year, the major Tacoma employer began looking for 200k square feet of office space with expansion capabilities to 300k in five years. Locations have been considered all over the region and, for a while, it really looked like we may lose the company. Well, a decision has been made …

In a voicemail message sent to all 800 Tacoma based employees, Davita management today announced that the company is staying in Tacoma and in their main office at 15th and Pacific. To increase capacity they’ll be leasing additional floors in the Columbia Bank Building. At this point, Davita has employees in several offices around downtown. The goal will be to slowly integrate these employees into the two locations.

In case you didn’t know … this is very good news.

Awesome news…one major employer down…one to go.

…. more like one major employer down, one to go, and countless future employer moves to mitigate against.

Hopefully Tacoma is actually learning from this and the Russell thing and will learn how to not drive employers out of the city.

This is great news for Tacoma!

Congratulations Exit 133 for the scoop. I haven’t seen this anywhere else yet.

Considering we found out less than two hours ago. A very good scoop.

man..we found out a bit ago and i came on here to tell everyone. someone else in the office must be an exit133 fan too.

That’s great news. Tacoma has its hands full in competing with Seattle for Russell. But there are so many great reasons for staying here.

And ditto on the congrats to Exit 133 for the scoop. Love the TNT, but competition is good for the community.

Three cheers for Davita execs. Nothing like a little ol’ recession to help you realize you can sometimes save money by staying put.

OK, now get to work on Russell!

This is great news! Maybe they’re waiting for the new Russell tower to be completed so they can move into the old Russell building… then Devita can all be together.
Haub (the potential builders of the new Russell building) wouldn’t have bought all those lots in DT without knowing something. That’s not how those sorts of companies work. Too much of a gamble without knowing something. Russell will stay too. I’d put money on it.

Ooooh, 10 year lease. Guess they can’t do the old Russell building but… 10 years! Good.

    Nice.

Considering the economy is in the crapper and not coming out any time soon, this news makes my day. Good job Davita, good job City of Tacoma.

Last month I read in the TNT that Russel company already had vacated two floors it leases in the Columbia Bank Center and spent the last two months shopping the space for sublease. So far, no one’s taken it. Maybe Davita decided to stay because it could lease the Columbia floors that Russell vacated.
