Native American Cultural Center

The old Commencement Bay Coffee space on South 25th and Jefferson Avenue, which has been sitting empty for several months now is getting a new tenant. The space is becoming a Native American cultural center run by the non-profit Native Quest. The center will feature resources including cultural events, an enormous library of Native American books, a cafe serving native food and drinks, and more. For more details see the Tacoma Weekly article on the new Native American cultural center.

Two Tacoma Hospitals Do It Again

If you need medical attention in Pierce County, Tacoma is the place to be. That’s how we’re reading this year’s Consumer Choice Award. The award, based on a survey by the National Research Corporation, named MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital and Franciscan Health System’s St. Joseph Medical Center co-winners. Both hospitals have won the distinction at least a dozen times before, and it’s good to see them take the honor yet again.

What we really want to know, however, is between St. Joe’s and TG, which has the better red Jello to green Jello ratio? Oh, and where you’re more likely to get chocolate pudding than banana. Sometimes it’s the little things.
