Drink and Pledge Drive at Doyle's
Doyle’s is once again helping out KUOW 94.9 by donating $1 from every pint of Guinness sold from October 6th through the 16th. Doyles is looking to break the 1,000 pint mark this year, so get to it and raise a pint for public radio.
And yes, we know KUOW is in Seattle, but they do have KXOT in the South Sound.

I heard a rumor that KPLU wasn’t thrilled with this fundraising method and may have sent Doyle’s away. Personally, I wonder what better way there could be to raise funds than to raise beers.

Can I drink something other than Guinness (blech) and just give Doyle’s a $1 donation for KUOW? I’m willing to refer to my pint of Smithwick’s/Carlsberg/whatever as Guinness if that helps.

KPLU has rebuffed the Raise A Pint For Public Radio promotion. They felt it did not fit in with the direction of their pledge drive campaign. We do contribute a portion of the proceeds to National Public Radio which KPLU participates. Please let KPLU know that you would like them to participate in Doyle’s efforts for public radio.

Yes, KXOT’s transmitter is in Tacoma. But everything on it comes from a studio in Seattle, from staff based there. Hardly a Tacoma station.
KPLU has a relatively new General Manager. If they brought up the idea more than a year ago, they might get a different response.

Actually, KXOT is trying quite hard to be a Tacoma station.
I’ve been interviewed several times for both KUOW and KXOT. Many of our local historians and personalities have been interviewed. KXOT has broadcast all our County Executive interviews in a partnership with us.
Dominic Black, one of their producers, spends a tremendous amount of time in Tacoma and has been trying to get more attention for down here. I do believe he’d love to have an office here.
So, at least one of their producers is trying to be less Seattle in their programming.

Dominic has been doing a great job getting the 253 perspective on KUOW. KPLU is broadcast from Tacoma/Spanaway, but all of their programs outside of the Jazz are produced by NPR. I will make an offer of support for KPLU’s Spring Pledge Drive.
