Elks Building Heading Toward Revitalization
The word on the street is that the son of the late Ron Zimmerman is in town this week to consider several offers on the Elks Building. It’s been a long road for this absolutely amazing building. When it was built in 1915 it was hailed as an ‘architectural gem’ and the ‘handsomest’ elks lodge in the U.S. Sold by the Elks in the late 1960s, it eventually fell into disrepair. In the late 1990s the Elks Building became a central figure in the urban renewal debate when a multiplex cinema developer put the building in its crosshairs to make way for a new theater.
At this point it appears to be heading toward a new life and renewal. Supposedly all the offers being considered will revitalize the building. Cross your fingers.

I doubt if many Tacomanians want to trade their parking space for a “mini-park.” If there was a mini-park you wouldn’t have any place to park your car and you’d be spending your free time every day picking up malt liquor bottles and dog poop.

It’s always a fun event, whether you participate or just walk down the street and enjoy a park. We’re excited to see the creativity out there! Hoping this helps people rethink how they get to, and around, downtown.
