Everyone is a rockstar at Rockaraoke

Getting on stage and belting out a tune like you are commuting alone in your Honda Civic isn’t as hard as it might seem. People do it all the time at karaoke nights at their favorite bars all the time. And then there are those who want more.

Enter from stage left, Rockaraoke at Jazzbones Monday nights. It is karaoke backed by a rock band instead of a revision of the music with the vocals stripped away. Would–be singers select songs from a list of about 250 songs the band plays from memory and simply wait their turn to take the stage. Some do old-school rock. Some do pop. Others do country or rap. They do whatever moves them.

Regulars, known only by their first names as if they are in the witness protection program, often find themselves surrounded by claps and cheers even before they step to the stage. And of course, hot girls in tight jeans, low-cut shirts and mid-thigh skirts get their share of attention and whistles of appreciation even if they can’t carry a tune.

The trick is to have fun, fake it and entertain. Key changes are no trouble if everything else works. The backup band covers the tune and reportedly has the ability to dial back the lead vocals if all goes wrong.

One fact is that the singers seem to get better as the night goes one and the beer flows more freely. Weird.

“And of course, hot girls in tight jeans, low-cut shirts and mid-thigh skirts get their share of attention and whistles of appreciation even if they can’t carry a tune.”

Imagine: scantily clothed, sexy women getting applauded just for sexiness’ sake at a bar! I should just be glad someone finally took the time to write that observation down. This is the least interesting, (also an incredibly generic) way of promoting event fill- in- the- blank used by countless others.I go to Rockaraoke at Jazzbones and do have a blast- but I am disappointed the writer felt the need to highlight this in particular for exit133 readers.
There’s T & A almost everywhere ya look- either tonally challenged ones singing Rockaraoke or walking down the street. Exit133 usually has more interesting things to say about events around town- one primary reason I read it so frequently.

Anyone else thinking what I am thinking? Which is Steve might be a descendant of far wandering eyed beaver trappers from the heavily French influenced south of Luxembourg who in 1769 came to Tahoma because they heard a lot of wood was found to have been gnawed on there?
