Our Favorite Thing This Week

Our absolute favorite thing this week was hearing Serena, a third grader from Brown’s Point Elementary School, deliver her views on taxes to the City Council during public comment. While it required a brief suspension of the Council’s public comment rules requiring comment be limited to items on the agenda, we think it was well worth it. Serena spoke clearly, and was obviously well-prepared. She’s an excellent argument for her own demand that funding for gifted student programs not be cut. Good work Serena – we hope you’ll continue to stay civically engaged for many years to come.

To hear Serena’s public comment, see our post on this week’s City Council meeting.

She delivered some comments. Did she author the comments? Doubtful.

My niece was reading novels at age eight. This girl very well may have written her speech… but with guidance on the political theories.
