Fire and Police Will Be Watching for Illegal Fireworks

Some of us like to blow things up to celebrate our independence. Some of us, for various reasons (skittish pets, sleeping babies, roof fires, etc) aren’t such big fans of explosions in our neighborhoods. Whatever your feelings on the subject, the fact remains that fireworks are indeed illegal within the City of Tacoma. On that subject, last week’s City Manager’s report had a few notes that might be of interest.
… Citizens wanting to report fireworks violations should call the Law Enforcement Support Agency (LESA) non·emergency line at (253) 798-4722. However, if the fireworks violation appears to put people or property in immediate danger, citizens should call 911. Police will be assigned to fireworks enforcement complaints starting Saturday, June 30th through Thursday, July 5th.
The Police Department is looking to continue their aggressive efforts pursuant to
Fireworks enforcement within the city limits. The Department’s intent is to
facilitate the program in the same size and scope as we did in 2011. This will
involve 6 days of after dark emphasis and Zero Tolerance enforcement, consisting of approximately 8-14 persons each evening for 4·6 hour periods, paid for with overtime. These enforcement actions include Pre holiday – previous offender notices (for in advance wamings), education, citations, and confiscations.
So, there you have it. Celebrate responsibly.

This law is like the leash law. It isn’t going to be enforced and the city should quit pretending it is.

The cops could catch a zillion offenders if they were on foot instead of being lazy in patrol cars.Probably could pay off the city debt too if they did it for a few days.

I have had enough of this, society has really gone down hill with all these rules! For the Fourth I’m going up to my cabin. To save money I created a batch of homemade fireworks this year. It will be chilly up there so I’ll be wearing a hoodie. Also going to be doing some writing.

This comes out the same day as the Puyallups put their big fireworks insert into the TNT. Come to “firecracker alley” buy all sorts of illegal crap from the natives, we don’t have to follow your rules!

Man, what a bunch of whiners. Go ahead, blow off your illegal fireworks. Then all the dogs that are not on a leash will run scared into traffic to be hit by patrol vehicles, forcing cops to walk a beat as their cars are out for repair, the firework newspaper ads used as masking for the new paint jobs. Result: Fireworks gone, no dogs, cops on foot, reusing newspaper constructively. See, is it so hard to solve a problem in this town? If you need me, I’ll be up at the cabin.

Totally excited to see how many houses get burned down this year on the 4th.
Had a nice one go up in flames about 4 years ago two blocks from our house.

sometimes homes burn down because of dry christmas trees. I propose that we outlaw christmas trees. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CHRISTMAS TREES.
