First Citizens Bank Opens in Tacoma

Just in case you haven’t heard already … Lacey based Venture Bank was closed on Friday evening by the FDIC and immediately sold to North Carolina based First Citizens Bank & Trust. Venture had several Tacoma branches and we had a few accounts with them. Their employees were active in the downtown business scene and were known throughout the community. We ran into one of them on Saturday and were told that the transition should be extremely smooth.
Today is Monday. The new signs are hanging and the doors are open. As we peek through windows the faces are the same as when we visited on Friday.
If you have some time, a great audio piece to listen to at this point would be the This American Life segment that follows the FDIC as it takes over the Bank of Clark County. It puts a human face on the transaction and reveals the level of planning and coordination that would’ve occurred on Friday evening around here.
Welcome to the neighborhood?

At least there is a bank in there still, I was afraid it was going to shut down and become another bail bonds office. On the other hand how much difference is there between a banker and a bail bondsman?

I’ve wanted to blow up the Venture Bank building at 8th and Pacific for some time now. It’s basically a suburban bank building complete with a drive through. Smack in the middle of DCC zoning. I’ve spent a lot of time drawing up a suitable replacement for that corner.

I was told by a local informant called “Cheap Goat” that you have used up your bragging rights.
