First Night 2013 Buttons Now Available

Buttons for this year’s First Night celebration are now available. For those of you not familiar, First Night is Downtown Tacoma’s annual all ages celebration of the new year. First Night events typically include participatory arts and crafts activities, performances, and general merriment. Many activities are free, but buttons on sale now will get you even more merriment.
On New Year’s Eve in downtown Tacoma, your special First Night button will get you free access to three downtown Tacoma museums (Museum of Glass, Tacoma Art Museum, and for the first time the LeMay America’s Car Museum). Your button will also get you free skate rental all day at Polar Plaza and free access to the performances taking place throughout the evening at all First Night stages.
The buttons are limited edition, designed by a local artist, and when they’re gone, they’re gone, so collect yours now. If you do happen to miss out on the buttons, you can get a First Night sticker that will still get you in on all the First Night fun. Kids 10 and under get all the fun for free, and anyone older who buys the button before December 31 gets it for the bargain price of $10. On the day of prices go up to $14 for the over-10 set.
Buttons are now on sale, and if you’re interested in volunteering, you can sign up to help out. Information on both is available on the First Night webpage.
We’re sure many of you have fond memories of First Nights past. What’s yours?

I was at the first First Night with my sister waiting for the parade to start. A woman walked up and asked us if we wanted to be in it— I guess they had some extra giant puppets. We followed her and she handed us great big paper mache stars. We got to march behind Moon Man and got our pictures in the paper the next day!
