First Proctor Farmers' Market of 2012 - This Weekend
It’s finally (almost) here; farmers’ market season kicks off this Saturday with the Proctor market.

The Proctor Farmers’ Market 2012 season kicks off on Saturday, March 31st. It’s time to shake off winter hibernation and start thinking about spring… and better yet, summer.
There will of course be locally sourced fruits and vegetables, meats and cheeses, bakery items and coffee. It’s also time to get started on your garden plans for the year, and the market will have plenty to inspire you. Vegetable starts, berry and fruit tree starts, flowering perennials and more from knowledgeable vendors. It may not feel tropical out there yet, but before you know it, it’ll be warm enough for things to start growing. We promise.
The Broadway, 6th Avenue, and South Tacoma farmers’ markets won’t begin until May, so for April, Saturdays at the Proctor Market are where it’s at. Keep an eye on those markets at www.tacomafarmersmarket.com.

I hate to break it to you, but this isn’t the first Proctor Farmer’s Market of 2012. Proctor runs year round – monthly in the winter months and weekly the rest of the year.

What’s awesome is that it kicks off the season of WEEKLY farmers markets around town.
I have an 11 year old who has been begging (BEGGING) for kale chips. And it looks like we get fresh, local kale starting Saturday.

I think the point being made, is that the PFM’s regular weekly season has officially begun. Most people, including me, really look forward to our reliable, weekly supply of local fresh goodies! BTW, it’s where we discovered Gradwohl Farms and their amazing beef.

I’m grateful for the winter occasional markets but SO EXCITED to have the regular farmers market season kick in. This weekend with Proctor, and I think May marks the return of the downtown market on Broadway. Happy food days are here … :)
