Food Waste Recycling Starts This Month
Tacoma’s new food waste recycling service is rolling out this month. The little brown bins that are the star of the City’s informational video on the topic should be arriving on the doorsteps of single-family homes any day now.
Once they arrive, residents can begin using them to hold food waste in their kitchens, which they can then transition to their yard waste bins for pick-up. The food will be composted along with other yard waste. And the good news for those of you who already compost at home is that the City’s food waste program doesn’t have to be as discriminating as home composters, so you can dispose of things like prepared foods, meat, dairy, and bread products in the little brown bin.
So simple. If you want to learn a little more, visit www.tacomarecycles.org or watch this nifty video.

hmmmmm, your hands would be compostable too, so that might be okay, better check with them first before you do it that way………………….

This is a really great step. We’ve been throwing the vegetable and fruit peels, trimmings, etc. in for a long time, but those were the same as yard waste, all compostable vegetation. Being able to throw in coffee grounds, meat scraps, and the occasional severed hand will be great.

This is gonna save me a fortune in wood-chipper rental fees.
