Forget the media...

When I came to Tacoma for college… it seemed like the folks from out of state learned about Tacoma. Those from Portland or Seattle when to Portland or Seattle in their spare time. After college, those that stayed in Tacoma tended to be from somewhere else. Those from Seattle ran back to Seattle as fast as they could.

Our worst image enemy are native Northwesterners. I don’t know this person’s provenance, but it was posted in response to somebody asking about traveling the Northwest and a couple people recommended the Museum of Glass.

With apoligies to the Tacoma lovers, but I don’t think for first timers Tacoma is really worth a visit. Unless you are enamored of Chihuly glass (which he doesn’t blow himself, don’tcha know), there’s not a whole lot to see in Tacoma that would merit omitting something else more interesting, like more time in Seattle or on the Peninsula.
