Former San Antonio PIO Named as Tacoma Spokesperson

Tacoma’s City Manager has brought in a replacement for former City spokesman Rob McNair-Huff.

Rob’s replacement will be Gwen Schuler, formerly of San Antonio, Texas. She joins Broadnax and his assistant Nadia Chandler, bringing the number of ex-San Antonians to join City ranks this year up to three.

Schuler, a former PIO for the City of San Antonio, most recently held a position as Director of Communications for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Rob’s departure was accompanied by talk of Broadnax wanting to take things in “a different direction,” so we’re expecting to see things done a little differently going forward … we’ll see what that means.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Gwen!

I hope by different direction he doesn’t mean shutting down the barely-open government (especially the unelected portion.) I do question the city council on the choice, but we will see how it plays out.

Doubt if this “job” needed filling. It seems like sort of a frivolity for a government organization running a huge deficit. If the public needs information then the city manager should just give out the information.

Seems like a lot of Brodnax’s pals are getting jobs on Tacoma’s dime. They probably got “relocation expenses” paid for too. Perhaps Mr. Brodnax should assign her first task to be informing the public about what exactly his “different direction” is and why it’s coming at the cost of our citizens…
