Free Architectural Walking Tours of Downtown Tacoma

If the recent news about the Elks Lodge and Luzon has piqued your curiosity in the history of downtown Tacoma’s buildings you may be interested in the Tacoma Historical Society’s upcoming walking tours.

On Thursday evening (Aug. 20). 90 minute tours will begin at 5:30 and 6 p.m. at the Society’s Exhibit Center located at 747 Broadway. Areas highlighted will include the St. Helens neighborhood, the Theater District, 11th & Broadway and 13th & Pacific (the Luzon Building). These tours are in support with the Society’s current exhibit “From Ruins to Renaissance: The Architecture of Downtown Tacoma.” The center will be open from 5:00pm to 8:00pm for ArtWalk Thursday. Tours will last about 90 minutes and will spotlight Tacoma’s current architecture and note both removed historic buildings and modern development.
