Free CERT Training
The Tacoma Fire Department is again offering Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training free to anyone who lives or works in Tacoma. The CERT Program is designed to educate citizens about disaster preparedness, and to deliver training for disaster response. The program follows a FEMA-developed model to train citizens to respond in case of a disaster in their neighborhoods and workplaces.
In the series of six classes participants learn basic skills, such as how to put out small fires, light search and rescue, utility safety, team organization, and disaster medical operations. These sound like great skills for anyone to have – we certainly feel better knowing that our neighbors and co-workers are getting this kind of training to bridge the gap before the professionals can show up.
Classes will be held in March, beginning on the sixth. You’ll want to enroll soon, because they can only take up to 25 students in this series of classes.
For more information, and to enroll today, visit the CERT webpage.
