Free Yard Design Workshop - Today

Here are a couple of free, fun workshops for those of you with yards, particularly if you’d like to keep them eco-friendly, while not letting them completely go…

And the good news is there’s still room in today’s workshop, sponsored by the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

The benefits of natural yard care to the environment are many, including fewer chemicals into our ecosystem, and water conservation. Natural yard care design teaches how to use low-maintenance, drought-resistant plants in ways that conserve water and look great. Workshop attendees will learn easy ways to have a healthy, beautiful yard with minimal or no chemicals. The selfish benefits are plentiful too: it’s safer for you, your kids, and your pets when you have fewer chemicals in your lawn.

Natural Yard Care 101: Designing and installing your natural yard care landscape

Wednesday, April 25, 6-8 p.m., Moore Library 215 S. 56th St., Tacoma, or
Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m.- Noon, Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler

Presented by Greg Butler, a landscape planner. Greg will show you how to make your landscape more Puget Sound friendly by reducing the need for pesticides, herbicides, and unnatural fertilizers on your yard. He has simple ideas that can make less work for you and will add more beauty to your yard.

And coming up later in May…

Healthy Landscapes for People & Wildlife: Presentation and plant walk

Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m.-Noon, Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler

Presented by Dana Bressette, an urban horticulturist. Dana will help you choose the right plant for the right place. Native plants attract wildlife and use less water, pesticides and fertilizers and add beauty to your yard. As part of her presentation, Dana will conduct a plant walk highlighting plants in their native habitat.
