Giving Locally - One More Week
There’s still time!
We have extended the deadline for our Community Giving program with The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation to this next Friday, July 18th. We wanted to allow those who will not receive their stimulus checks until the end of the week to participate … and of course, the more people involved the more impact we can have.
The idea is that if a large group of our Exit 133 reading community donates what they can, then together we can pool the funds and do something really great. Remember, we are asking you to consider giving a portion of your stimulus check that have been distributed over the last couple months.
We will have a get together on Wednesday, July 23rd at Cork! Wine Bar on 6th Avenue to discuss what to do with the funds. Those who have donated will be invited to join the conversation and make the decision on where to give the money.
In the last post, we identified three important needs highlighted by the Community Foundation.
- Access to arts and cultural activities for all residents
- Civic engagement initiatives that connect diverse individuals and organization
- Family sustainability through education and personal responsibility
These needs, along with two listed below, will be the basis for our conversation when we get together on the 17th. Here are the other two needs recently identified by the Community Foundation:
- Encourage environmental stewardship through educational efforts
- Enhance education by fostering a passion for learning
To participate, click this link to be directed to our group donor page on The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation’s website. You can either enter payment information on-line, or follow the instructions to mail in a check. None of the money we pool together will go to the Community Foundation or Exit133—every penny will go to the need that we decide to fund.
So join the conversation and spend some of that stimulus refund locally to support Tacoma residents’ access to arts, civic engagement, family sustainability, environmental stewardship, or passion for learning! We look forward to seeing you on July 23rd.
