Gov. Picks UWT Student for Board of Regents

Governor Chris Gregoire today announced her appointments to the University of Washington Board of Regents. This year is significant. For the first time ever, the student regent comes from the University of Washington Tacoma. Even more exciting (to us)* is that he’s in the Urban Studies department at UWT.

Jean-Paul Willynck of Lakewood has been appointed as student regent to a term effective July 8, 2008, ending June 30, 2009. Willynck attends the University of Washington Tacoma and will graduate in 2009 with a B.A. in urban studies. He was on the dean’s list in fall 2007 and winter 2008. He is involved in several university and community activities, serves as the director of public relations of the Urban Studies Club, is the founding chair of the Commuters Association and was a participant in the Sustainability Summit 2008.

The board of regents serves as the governing body for the University of Washington. Student regents serve a one-year term.

Congratulations, Jean-Paul!

* Full Disclosure: Derek sits on the advisory board to UWT’s Urban Studies department and Whitney is a graduate of the program.
