Gregoire Announces New Goodwill Building
This morning we found ourselves at the Goodwill building on South 27th street for an exciting announcement. After remarks by Jim Walton, Terry Hayes, Goodwill program participants Darren Lewis and Sharon Bryant, and Mayor Bill Baarsma, Governor Chris Gregoire unveiled the new the site plans and design drawings for Goodwill’s new Work Opportunity Center.

The project is a $20 million LEED Silver certified facility designed by BCRA. It will be located at the southeast corner of South 27th Street and Tacoma Avenue and will include a Youth Career Development Center, Adult Work Opportunity Center, Distance Learning Center, Adaptive Technology Lab, plus community meeting spaces and a job resource room. The project will break ground in the middle of 2008 with an expected opening in 2009.
Today’s event was tremendously inspiring. We look forward to Goodwill’s future in Tacoma.

I’ll provide a regular stream of poetry to the city of Tacoma and they can donate my $2000 poet laureate stipend to the public works department to fill potholes.
Here’s my first submission, free of charge. Let me know how you like it.
