Grow Local Tacoma

Remember that little community gardens conversation we had? If only we knew we were following Alice down the rabbit hole….

After over a year of conversations, events and work, the little group has created a new endeavor. Grow Local Tacoma is a new site dedicated to our local foodshed. Foodsheds are the agricultural equivalent of watersheds: The “agro-ecological footprint” necessary to feed a community or a region.

Local food embodies many values we have for our community- healthy communities, a strong economy, equality, healthy environment. However, buying or eating local is not always easy. Grow Local Tacoma is meant to be a hub for information. A place to find resources in order to be more integrated into our local foodshed. Its also a place to support each other as we overcome hurdles to eating locally.

It’s just beginning. There’s still a lot more information we want to add to the site. Comments will be allowed on the blogs in a few weeks – maybe sooner. We hope you all will join us as we venture further down Alice’s rabbit hole…
