Happy 133rd Birthday Tacoma!

Tacoma was incorporated on November 12, 1875 – 133 years ago.

To mark the occasion, the fine folks at Speak Your Soul have posted a community created Tacoma tribute poem. Zach Street delivers a compelling reading. It’s real. It provides a sense of place. Its worth a listen.

133 years ago we were just beginning. Then we became a city. We grew, shrank, built up, and tore down. Now, in 2008, we seem to talk about rebirth. We talk about potential, vision, and direction. We talk about the future and what we imagine Tacoma could be.

But to us, it’s simply Tacoma. We’re here. We love it.

Happy Birthday Tacoma!

Happy Birthday Tacoma! WOW 133 years! Let’s hold a HUGE birthday party next year with a ticker tape parade down Pacific Avenue, marching bands and a cheering crowd on the sidewalk!

    I LOVE Tacoma!

Tacoma, you look good for your age.

It appears today may be the birthday of Tacoma City (Old Town) and not the actual City of Tacoma.

“Old Tacoma and New Tacoma merged in 1884 and incorporated as Tacoma”

Does that mean we have another chance to plan a killer party for T-Town’s 133rd birthday? Phew…

Will exit 133 be re-named exit 134 next year?
