Harbor Lights Closing For Remodel
Harbor Lights is closing on Monday for three weeks. The restaurant, one of Tacoma’s most iconic waterfront establishments, is getting a makeover. When it reopens, regular patrons of the restaurant, and especially the bar, hope it retains its iconic, nostalgic feel.
Most of us have been to Harbor Lights, and many of us have first hand experience with the famously stiff drinks poured in the intimate little bar. The restaurant was purchased by Anthony’s in 2000 The News Tribune piece about the remodel tells more of the history, and honors the fond nostalgia many Tacomans have for the 54-year old establishment, along with some details of the proposed work.
- Harbor Lights closes starting Monday, March 7, for what is planned to be a three week remodel.
- Anthony’s says it will be respectful of the history and feel of the restaurant.
Staying
- The iconic sign.
- The open kitchen.
- Your favorite bartender and servers.
- The famously stiff cocktails.
Changing
- Opening up the bar to water views.
- Updates to the kitchen and floor plan.
- New bathrooms.
- New tables.
- New carpet.
- New paint.
Unknowns include what will happen to all those new clippings and pictures in the entryway, and what you’ll think of the remodel.

They do need to fix the pathway outta the bar. It’s fine going in, but it always sways back and forth when leaving.

I sorta like the old School feel of this joint. I can see where it could be cleaned up but keep that retro feel – its awesome.

I hope to see wood floors put in to keep the dark comfy feeling, some updated tables and chairs would be awesome as well. We beg you keep the ships wheel, it’s so cooooool. Luv you Harbor Lights!!!
