Harmon Hub - Doors Open Tomorrow

The Harmon Hub is just one day from officially opening its doors. We made it to an informal pre-opening event last night and the place was glowing. Food and drink was everywhere. The place was packed. The mural behind the bar was done by Chris Sharp, one of our favorite local artists. The scratch margarita was tasty. Pizza flowed freely. And it’s on the way home from the office…. uh oh.

OK, I give up. What is the Harmon Hub?

  • RR Anderson March 31, 2008

best logo ever! delightful signage. Good job mystery designer :)

  • drizell March 31, 2008

Nice sign on the outside. Too bad it will soon be covered up by rowhouses on the vacant lot next door. Pretty soon, all the right-wing extremists out there who were so offended by Hustler Hollywood are going to start protesting that sign.

I wish someone would make a truly authentic slice of New York pie. I took really good pizza for granted growing up in Brooklyn, and ever since moving to the Northwest I have never found anything like it.

    Thanks RR.
I knew you really loved me.

I hear New York has a lot of pizza places that New Yorkers like.

  • altered chords March 31, 2008

I hear that Philly has pizza that Philadelphians like too.

Driz is right. Nothing like the stuff I got in Philly, New Jersey and N.Y.

I love the stuff I get here too though. I went to Casa Mia in lakewood Saturday night and the chicken and 3 cheese pizza was KILLER. Never had anything like it in Philly.

    Diversity in pizza tastes.

But why not have that style of pizza here?

Philly sandwiches seem to be in abundance here.

Pat Nagle. If you make a NY style pizza. I can guarantee 2 buyers for it. Me and Drizell. But it’s gotta be the real deal.

PS – Big space. Live music coming?

Just got home from the new space…love it. Great atmosphere, pizza was delicious and I don’t need to describe the ales.

Ok, dumb question here, so forgive me, but I assume kids are allowed like the Harmon — the is a restaraunt not a bar…? I like to try new joints, but frequently have at least one 10 year old in tow.

Yes, it all family friendly except for the bar area.

    @4

    Nice work sir. ;)

The rowhouses next door will be a primo location. Two restaurants within 50 steps of your front door. One of the best bars in the U.S. (Doyle’s) around the corner, as well as King’s Books.

From what I understand, they will be completely compliant with the parking requirements on that 25-foot lot and will not cause the onstreet spaces on 2nd to be lost.

    Drizell-
You can’t get a New York slice of pizza here, because we don’t have that special New York water.
Good pie needs good water… words to live by.

    Pfff.

With crime the way it is in Tacoma, Ive pretty much come to the conclusion that unless Im committing some type of felony then the cops wont give a crap what I do.

And just for the record, I suggested a ride before we engage in any drinking. How we all get home after that is up to our own personal sense of morality ;-)

  • Heather April 2, 2008

Thanks RickZ @15 – good information for my drinking and riding self.

I’m planning to ride to the Hub on Friday, hoping to arrive around 5 to meet some friends, before it (theoretically) gets too crowded. What did you have in mind,(A)roma?

So I’m sitting here staring at a bottle of Cycles Gladiator Cabernet Savingnon (picked up at Tacoma Boys). The label sports atwork that is nearly identical to the logo of the Harmon Hub. I’m curious to know if the artist who did the Hub had anything to do with the artwork on by bottle o’ vino or is this just merely a coincidence?
Here the web addy for the wine

    anyt thoughts?

  • CA April 2, 2008

MyMomThinksImCool, there is an on going conversation about this very topic, including pics, over at feedtacoma.

well the rusty george crew did remove the wingtips from the bike pedals.

Even so I suppose the old saying “originality consists of hiding your sources” holds true even in these confusing digital thymes.

  • Nerffjones April 2, 2008

This was a clear nod to the original Gladiator Cycles poster that was done in 1895. Before nude cycling on pizza joints and wine labels was all the rage.
