Heidelberg Brewery Loses The Sign
Since we’re talking about signs… The Heidelberg Brewery no longer has its distinctive “Heidelberg” script and facade on the top of the building. The rumor on the street is that the sign and facade had become unsafe… that’s all we know.

It’s about time that ugly sign was taken down. When are they going to finish tearing down this monstrosity of a building and replace it with the sweet looking new Holiday Inn?

Hmmm….a dangerous sign. “Slippery When Wet” or “Dangerous Curve” These are dangerous signs. “Heidelberg” – this does not appear so dangerous to me. But I’m not a sign expert.

Each big windstorm you would see more sign parts strewn across C Street. Not a big surprise someone took a look at it and brought it down.

The question is, “What did they do with the sign?” and “Can I have it?”

Great article Morgan.
With the vandals destruction of most of the historical items in the Elks Temple though, I can see why they removed it.

Morgan – Great history. Off the wall question. Any pacific northwest breweries (perhaps local) attempting to re-create this alt bier recipe?
Sounds like it was very good. The mega breweries may have demolished good beer in the 70’s but obviously great beer can’t be “held down by the man” – (micro-brews, brewpubs etc.)
Tacoma needs her krausenized alt bier again!

I always thought the Heidelberg Brewery complex would make an awesome indoor water park… and spa.
