Help KUPS Get an mtvU Woodie Award
My college alma mater’s radio station, KUPS, is up for an mtvU Woodie Award – an award that recognize the “best of the best” of college radio. After a couple (relatively unscientific) rounds of voting, KUPS is now in the top 50 and one of only two stations in Washington State. With a top 25 to be announced on September 29th, it’s time for you to cast your vote. Let’s move Puget Sound’s little transmitter up the list!
Now tune your radio to 90.1 fm.

As the proud former host of a lunchtime show on KUPS (Eating Out With Andrew), I will gladly vouch for the station. Way better than that KPLsnnnnUzzzze.

I love KUPS as much as the next guy (actually, probably a little bit more) but for the love of god, I wish they would change their broadcasting frequency. KEXP fades out in a direct relationship to KUPS fading in – they’re the reason I can’t get KEXP driving around town, and that’s not cool.

Anybody remember my Saturday night show from the summer of ’85?…Didn’t think so.

Not to be a player-hater, but KUPS’s productions sounds very amature compared to other college radio stations (i.e. the highly juvenile promos, confused and stoned sounding volunteer DJ’s), and the music is very hit or miss (too often a miss, for me).

KUPS has nothing to do with the signal coverage of KEXP. By FCC rules, both of these stations are basically stuck at the meager power level they have now. Other stations around them would have to move or reduce power, which won’t happen.
They could have been bigger, but they didn’t expand 30 years ago, when it was possible. 100 Watts for blocks and blocks.
