Help With the 2014 Washington Bicycle & Pedestrian Count

The 2014 Washington State Bicycle and Pedestrian Count is coming up, and they could use your help. For three days this fall volunteers will take a census of cyclists and pedestrians using the streets and sidewalks at specific intersections all over Washington.

The count tells state and local planners where people are traveling by foot or on two wheels, helping them to understand how current infrastructure is being used, and to plan for future investments. The annual count helps transportation planners measure benefits of investments, estimate future demand, and design and target new investments.

It's the seventh year the count has been done, and WSDOT and the Cascade Bicycle Club are looking for 400 volunteers to help count.

Tacoma has more than 20 locations included in the count, and that's where you come in. Volunteer to man a location near you for a two-hour shift (the a.m. shift is 7-9 a.m., the p.m. shift is 4-6 p.m.) on September 30, or October 1 or 2. A list of the Tacoma locations is available on the sign-up page.
