Re-renaming Hilltop
Change the “Upper Tacoma Business District” to “Hilltop Business District.” That is the request coming from many in the community, including the Hilltop Business Association, which last summer wrote to the City, requesting the change in name. The proposed resolution is slated to come before City Council later this month.
Neighborhood identity and naming has been a hot topic on Exit133 in the past. Anybody else looking to change their name while we’re at it?

I’m pretty sure the name has always been Hilltop. People name a place, not sign painters.

That’s stupid.

@marguerite – I’m a bit confused by your “That’s stupid” remark in that the change would bring back the Hilltop name. So …

Hilltop is fine.
But MLK Ave needs to be changed back to it’s rightful name.
Name me one city in the world that has a street named MLK where the surrounding area is not a dump. If Hilltop is going to get cleaned up all the way, MLK has to go.

The name MLK stays. The business district needs to be cleaned out – all the toads in the road who are obstructing new businesses trying to go in needs to be dragged out into the sunlight and named. It is the deadest busines district in town and ther eis no excuse for that.

@peter peter, I am stupid. I read the post on my phone and totally misunderstood it. Pride swallowed!

Hilltop is Hilltop, and should always be Hilltop. Whose dopey idea was it to call it “Upper Tacoma”, anyway? You got to take some pride in your town’s history, not rename a historic neighborhood in response to a temporary spike in crime.

Let’s be one of the cities whose MLK Street is in a beautiful, thriving part of town.

North K would look better with an “ML” added to it.

I don’t have any problem changing the name of Proctor District to Malcolm X District.
