Historic Preservation Award Winners

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has announced the winners of the 2008 Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation Award.

Winners include:

  • David & Josephine Root (502 N. I St.) for their 1905 Shingle-style home is in the North Slope Historic District.
  • Todd & Paula Bond (407 N. E St.) for their 1893 home located in the Stadium-Seminary National Register Historic District.
  • Dr. Caroline T. Swope & David Waring (2902 N. Cedar) for their 1906 home that was designated as a landmark on the Tacoma and National Registers of Historic Places.
  • Metro Parks for the stewardship of Point Defiance Park and Wright Park.
  • Chinese Reconciliation Park for initiating and building a Chinese Commemorative park.
  • Historic Tacoma & Save Our Bridge organization for the Murray Morgan Bridge. It was listed on the Tacoma and National Registers of Historic Places, the Washington State Heritage Register, and was listed as one of 2008’s Most Endangered Historic Properties in the state.

Awards will be presented at tonight’s City Council Meeting.
