Hotel Murano #6 in Conde Nast Readers' Choice Awards
Congratulations to Tacoma’s very own Hotel Murano for its #6 placement on the 2009 Conde Nast Readers’ Choice Awards in the Top Hotels category. We know how much you like lists and this is a good one.

Our art filled hotel is in good company. Here are the top 10 hotels in the country:
1. 21C MUSEUM HOTEL, Louisville 97.2
2. THE PENINSULA, Chicago, 96
3. MANDARIN ORIENTAL, Boston, 94.4
4. THE PENINSULA, Beverly Hills, 94
5. FOUR SEASONS HOTEL, New York, 93.7
6. HOTEL MURANO, Tacoma, 93.5
7. STEPHANIE INN, Cannon Beach, Oregon, 93.4
8. AUBERGE DU SOLEIL, Napa Valley, 93.2
9. MANDARIN ORIENTAL, New York, 92.6
9. RITZ-CARLTON CENTRAL PARK, New York, 92.6
Now we didn’t make the top cities list … maybe next year.

Hotel Murano has a good thing going on with Tacoma, something that the other hotels on that list probably could never have (maybe Louisville, I don’t know anything about them). Tacomans are pretty proud of Murano, at least those I talk to, and will openly evangelize for them because it’s a symbol and bright spot for the city. If anyone from out of town asks me, Hotel Murano is THE choice. It also helps to build the following when they do the built-in hometown discounts, like with the heat wave this summer. I’d encourage them to do more of that to get Tacomans talking even more. Congratulations Hotel Murano!

Yesterday I went to an event sponsored by Internet Identity that was hosted over at the Museum of Glass. They had the whole hot shop thing going, etc. It stuck me that the folks who were at the event came across the bridge of glass from the Hotel Murano, where the eCrime conference is being held. It was a nice night and I couldn’t help thinking what a positive impact the experience must have left with the national and international visitors. Go, city of glass and grit.

anything hotel murano can do to kill off competition from hotels on the waterfront is OK by me.
Way to go Connie Ladenburg!

It would seem that Tacoma finally caught the big break it needs. Prosperity for Tacoma may be right around the corner. I suspect the phones are ringing off the hook at the Murano. It is good to finally be on the map.

I’ve crashed there quite a bit and it’s not equal to anywhere near the other #6s I’ve stayed at in other regions/countries. It’s kind of weird it’s there. Has the quality of hotels in this country gone down this far? It’s nice, with great art, but it’s not “knock your socks off to make a list” nice compared to the others that the lists say are its peers; in fact, I wouldn’t even compare them. It’s nice…just not THAT nice.

Perhaps you take for granted what’s in your own backyard. The grass seems greener on the other side?

Perhaps I’m not as refined as some, but I find the Murano top-notch. The service is excellent, the food is astounding, the decor is wonderfully themed. Between the giant horse lamp and “Pizza Cat” (my personal favorite), the uniqueness is enough to compete with any boutique hotel, motel, or holiday inn.
Honestly, “Pizza Cat” makes the hotel. Awesome.

I think the Murano inherited some of the classic Sheraton funk (thin walls, strange layout of the public spaces, weird parking…). Kudos to Murano for making Tacoma a better place and working with what was already there.

No seriously, I’m with cy.
I have personally stayed at 3 other hotels on this list and the Murano is truly out of place. I guess because it is a “readers choice” kind of list, where they’ll put anything that gets enough votes? Hotel Murano will NEVER be on one of the actual, editorial lists put together by Conde Nast. I mean really, compared to the Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan??? It’s quite the laugh.T Thorax O'Tool October 22, 2009
Wait… a good list that has Tacoma on it up with NYC and Chicago and
gaspSeattle is not on it?HAS THE WORLD GONE TOPSY-TURVY?
Either way, right-on, Murano. Thanks for making us look good. Just don’t spoil it by taking advice from Eric Anderson or the City Council. They’ll eat your soul.
