How About a Little Culture While You Walk?

For the latest in the Walk Tacoma 2012 series, Downtown On the Go is trying something a little different: how about a little culture with your walk?

Next Wednesday, August 1, the free Walk Tacoma event sponsored by DaVita will be hosted by poet, essayist, and UW Tacoma faculty member, Janie Miller. The poetry walk will combine the walk through Tacoma with a guided poetry lesson, including stops to write about the surroundings. All Walk Poetic participants will receive a small notebook, pen, and walking map to use during the walk. Writings and sketches may be shared or kept to yourself.

If you happen to suffer from metrophobia (apparently the fear of poetry), never fear; there’s an option for you too. You can walk with Liz and Matt from Expand Yoga for an outdoor workout with your walk.

Both walks will begin and end in front of the Woolworth Building at South 11th and Broadway, and cover 1.5 miles through parks and historical landmarks through downtown and the Hilltop neighborhood. There is no need to pre-register, just join the group in front of the Woolworth Building at 5:15 p.m.
