Inc. Lists Tacoma as #14 for Doing Business

We read in the TNT this morning that Inc. Magazine has named Tacoma the #2 city for doing business among midsize cities and #14 among all U.S. cities. Back in 2006, Inc. called us a boomtown!. We can’t keep track of all these lists …

Travel+Leisure: Tacoma is the #6 destination of 50 fabulous travel ideas (previously).

Outside: Tacoma is #5 town in America (previously).

American Style: Tacoma is the #17 arts destination among midsize cities in 2008 (Link).

Self: Back in 2006, we were listed as the best city for sex (previously).

Prevention: Another one from 2006 – Tacoma is the #19 top walking city … and we still don’t believe it. (previously).

And of course, we were the most stressed city in 2004.

I’m sure we’re missing a few lists … but at this point who can keep track? Hmmm… is there a list of cities that have made the most lists?

  • Tacoma (A)roma July 18, 2008

Meth hasnt been forgotten..its just that the machine that calculates these things has had some copper pieces stolen from it and is now inoperable.

Tacoma is the #(fill in blank) city in the Milky Way for self-promotion and marketing.

Ah … so much self-loathing. How dare those outsiders tell us we’re a pretty good city when we know better?

Or, could it be we’re actually doing something right?

    Silly me.

They’re just trying to keep rents down Dmitri.

    Tacoma, most listed city, ever.

    Tacoma:
Ranked #2 as the Puget Sound city most likely to escape from the shadow of Seattle, and develop a national/international identity of it’s own.

    #1 on the list: Seattle

What do you know? All that Grit City grit has made us nice and shiney…

Maybe somebody can explain to me how we made this list with a downtown that’s pricing out all of it’s existing businesses so that it can sit empty?

  • Squid July 21, 2008

We have a downtown? Man, you miss class one day…

  • Thorax O'Tool July 21, 2008

    @ Squid:
Class was pretty dull that day. You wanna borrow my notes? I drew a cool airplane in the margins.

  • tressie July 22, 2008

Bill Riley should hold a class on How to Fill Yr. Bldg……There must be some double-secret tax advantage for holding a bldg. empty…I know for A Fact! there are people/businesses that wanna move d-town….but can’t afford the stupid rent. I get mail. I get phone calls. That, is the drag on the American economy. Greedmeisters. Not every one is Russell, and has deep pockets. Or politicians in the side pocket.

If there is someone that should run for Mayor of this town it would be Bill Riley.

From the city council meeting last night: …..announcement from Deputy Mayor Manthou that Tacoma has received a Platinum Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies for meeting all standards for having clean water. Ah, straight from the tap. Delicious…

How many cities/towns can boast having clean water?

We don’t even need to boil it before using it to brush our teeth!

Although, having dirty water coming out of the tap is always a good reason to shun water in favor of beer.
