Invitation to Participate: I Am Curious

WHAT:  I AM CURIOUS…  is the artist event taking place SEPTEMBER 9th, 10 am-2 pm at an undisclosed location in Tacoma, Washington.  Anyone interested in community art can play.

This is a one-day event, a “yard sale” to raise awareness about all of the objects that come in and out of our lives.  Give new life to an object that might otherwise go to a landfill!  All objects will be priced at a $5 suggested donation with all proceeds to benefit the Tacoma Habitat For Humanity.

Each person finds three found or gently used objects with interesting shapes—they must be larger than a bowling ball, yet small enough for one person to carry.  Please don’t bring junk- we want these items to sell!!  Absolutely no computers nor components. Paint these objects Rust-Oleum SUN YELLOW (some may say ‘sunburst yellow’. . . ).  Not just yellow highlights, the whole object must be painted sun yellow. (available in cans or spray paint at Home Depot or Lowe’s).  Do not add any other colors.  Glass and mirrors are ok as long as rest of object is SUN YELLOW. 

Deliver items to site between 9 and 10 am the day of the event.  Please bring $2 for our sign and advertising kitty.  You are NOT required to stay (unless you want to do some shopping of course!)  If you are interested in hanging out during the event, please dress completely in black, including shoes.

NOTE: You will find out where to deliver the objects via email Saturday afternoon, September 8th.

We know this will be a fantastic photo-op and hope you help us spread the word.

This spectacle will only work if we generate a lot of yellow volume. The space we have picked out is large enough for hundreds of pieces!

You are invited to a gathering of YELLOW stuff about a week before the main event: YOU bring your yellow items and a potluck item to my place so we can rehearse their beautiful placement, outdoors. We will also make yard sale signs and attach price tags.  Rehearsal event and work party: My place, Sept 5, 6:30, a Wednesday evening.  RSVP for address. . .

I AM CURIOUS – CHECKLIST:

RSVP your full name with phone number (we will communicate mostly through email, but just in case) to Lynn so you get on the master email list. (If you already rsvp’d, let me know you noticed the main event date change. . . ).

Send this email to 5 friends you think would participate. 

Obtain SUN yellow paint (find at Home Depot, Lowe’s)

Recycle three gently used or found objects by painting them.  (We recommend you schedule a painting party with some of your friends!!)

September 5th, a Wednesday at 6:30 pm:  Bring painted objects to Lynn’s for a potluck party on the pavement and we will practice setting up our show, and make ‘yard sale’ signs to place all over Tacoma. 

September 9th, 9 am- 10 am: Deliver Objects (along with $2 for our advertising and sign fund- any money left over from the kitty will go into the donation fund), and spend the day watching (or participating in) the spectacle!
