Is Tacoma Celebrating Earth Hour?
Solar Richard sent us an email reminding us that this Saturday at 8:30 pm is the beginning of Earth Hour and he asks, what is the City of Tacoma doing?
According to the Earth Hour website, 2,712 cities, towns and municipalities in 83 countries including the Great Pyramids of Giza will turn off their lights as “part of the worlds first global election between Earth and global warming.” Locally, the City of Seattle is turning off the Space Needle.
Solar Richard says he has asked the City and hasn’t heard back. So … We don’t have a spire to turn off, so what should we do? What are we doing? Ideas or thoughts?

To celebrate Earth Hour, I turned on all my lights, set the thermostat at 90, turned on all my electronic gizmos, left the water running and let my cars idle.
The globe is cooling, I’m just doing my part to warm it back up.

What about having all of the electric signs on I5 turned off? Including all of the EQC signs and the Tacoma Dome.

Turn off the whole Port too, and the bridges.

The bridges are already off…oh wait that’s just the Murray Morgan.

If we’re saving power, how about making Our Fearless Leaders at 747 Market work 4 hrs/day, 4 days/week? Think of the power we could save!
That or figure out how to power T Town with all of Baarsma’s hot air.

I work for a property management company in Downtown, and also asked the City about participation in Earth Hour. I was hoping that we could partner in some way to raise awareness about the event. I did receive an email that they are not officially participating this year, but are looking at it for next year’s calendar. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I’ll be sure to turn on my toasters, lights, heaters, and vacuum. I may even light up a burn barrel in my back yard.

I will be celebrating earth hour by sleeping in a bed that is in a home that is on a piece land that is on the earth. I will not use the alarm clock during this hour.

It’s not 8:30 am?
Never mind. Wherever I am, if they make me drink in the dark I’ll be upset.

Since the sun sets an hour before Earth Hour, I would like to declare the 9:30-10:30 slot “Band-Aid Hour”.
