Is Uber Coming to Tacoma? (UPDATED)

A brand new twitter account and one tweet is getting a few folks excited. Uber, the rapidly expanding not-a-taxi and ridesharing service is considering Tacoma. Uber already operates in more than 30 US cities and 30 countries. This is the first time we've heard of them looking at our city.

The company is currently in the middle of a very public battle with the City of Seattle. We've reached out for additional information on the expanison and will let you know what we hear.

So there you have it. UberX plans to kick off official Tacoma service sometime in April. Who needs a ride?

Dont do it Über! People who take cabs in Tacoma aren't business people trying to get to seatac or a meeting. Do your homework. Check how many cabbies have been robbed, assaulted, or killed I would definetly not pick up a soul in Tacoma. I live in Tacoma. Bad idea.

  You realize that Uber is completely cashless - right? There's nothing to rob unless you're dumb enough to steal a car that is actively being tracked by the Uber company... This company has figured out a way to make it safer for drivers to pick up and transport passengers. Also - you have to request the Uber by using Uber's app, which means that there's a record of everyone in the car at all times. They don't just pull over and pick up people who flag them down. Uber coming to Tacoma is an amazing thing, and I truly hope that it takes off!
