It's Nearly Wayzgoose Time!

wayzgoose n. The name of the annual feast give by a master printer for the staff of the press.  In modern parlance, it is an annual gathering of printers. The word is of obscure origin.

This weekend at King’s Books you have the opportunity to attend one of the most authentically cool, and unassumingly unique events in Tacoma: Wayzgoose.  Silly name.  Seriously cool fun.

King’s Books will once again play host to the annual celebration of letter press and book arts, now in its eighth year.  And for the fifth year, the festivities will include steamroller printing, a must-see for anyone who calls themselves a fan of the arts, crafts, or just heavy machinery.  Among other highlights this year will be opportunities to meet local printers and check out what they’ve been working on, print your own keepsake, make paper creations, enter a raffle for 3’ x 3’ prints designed by local artists, screenprint on your own t-shirt or other fabric item (preferably not the one you’ll be wearing), and more.

The Tacoma Wayzgoose is a collaboration between King’s Books and artist Jessica Spring. This year’s broadside is designed by Ric Matthies and RJ Adler.  Other players this year include students from the University of Puget Sound; Abegale McDermott, eleven year-old proprietor of Guinea Pig Press in Tacoma; Lance Kagey and Tom Llewellyn of Beautiful Angle; Chandler O’Leary of Anagram Press; C.L.A.W., the Cartoonist’s League of Absurd Washingtonians, and many other artists and artisans of all ages and styles.

Jeff’s Ice Cream is a bicycle-based ice cream vendor in Tacoma offering Made-in-WA ice cream novelties. This is his third Wayzgoose!
