Kayak Site on the Foss Delayed - Racks by Summer?
A few months ago, we found out that the City hoped to have the proposed kayak float on the Thea Foss done by April. Well … the TNT is reporting that it isn’t going to happen quite so quickly. What will our kayaking and canoing friends do? The new plan calls for boat storage and a launch at the Dock Street Marina by mid-summer. The other project will continue with a more extended deadline. In the meantime, my canoe continues to hang in the garage waiting for it to warm up just a little bit more …

Just to be clear, the ramp and float planned for Waterway Park (west side of the Foss) is also on track for public use this Spring. The referenced article in the News Tribune is about a float that would have used an existing Shorelines permit for the City’s 21st Street Park site on the west side of the Foss. My understanding is that once the FWDA found they did not have time to get the necessary permits for a new float at 21st Street Park, they creatively produced an alternative approach which yields new racks and a low float at the Marina. Way to go FWDA!
