LeMay ACM and the Ace Cafe Bring Motorcycles to Tacoma this Summer
The new LeMay America’s Car Museum hasn’t even opened yet, but already we’ve been hearing excitement not only here in Tacoma, but at the national and even international level. And it looks like the LeMay will be more than just cars; motorcycle enthusiasts are looking forward to the “Summer Shakedown,” an event this August that will showcase vintage motorcycles.
The Summer Shakedown, being co-promoted by Ace Café London, aims to be a first-class tribute to the vintage motorcycle, on par with the tribute the museum makes to vintage cars. Motorcycle aficionados can expect judged classes, movies, and opportunities to have their ears talked off about the finer points of classic bikes.
According to the press release, the Ace Café London is a “transport café with a prominent motorcycle following.” The café originally opened in 1938, and closed in 1969, before reopening in 1997. This event will be the Café’s first dabbling in producing an event in the states.

I’m so excited for the opening of the LeMay Museum. This is a great example of the kind of partnership in which our city should be involved. It’s going to be fun for the locals, while at the same time, bringing in tourist/enthusiast dollars. The whole area’s growing, from the newly (hopefully) revitalized Freighthouse Square, to the improving bar and restaurant scene downtown. Now, if we could just do something about the T-Dome’s roof…
