Looking To Own A 6th Ave. Restaurant?
The Spew reported this morning on a Craigslist ad for a Sixth Avenue restaurant. Here’s a bit more information from the commercial listing on the property:
High traffic, high visibility corner location in the heart of Tacoma`s most active neighborhood near Jazzbones, Asado and Masa. Possible real property acquisition. Turnkey or ideal for any concept.
Opened in 2001. Seating capacity for 150. I can think of… one restaurant that fits that description.
Anybody have a spare $450k around?

Il Fiasco?
I’ve not memorized all the establishments in that area, but that’s my only guess. I know Il Fiasco has that “side room” that seats a bunch of people, though I didn’t think 150 could squeeze in.

You guys are being a bit coy… the ad also says it’s a corner location and was established in 2001.
That eliminates Primo Grill, Engine House, Shakabrah, and Crown Bar.
Hmmm… lemmesee… does the Starbucks have a huge private dining room? No?

Who would advertise a property like this on Craigslist? hmmmm… could it possibly be Chopstix?
The back room at Il Fiasco is cozy for 40. The front side room seats 20. I would guess there is seating for 50 in the main restaurant and bar. This is my favorite restaurant in town; I really hope they are not selling.

What about the (former?) Blue Olive thing at the corner with TapCo, Jazzbones and Il Fiasco? I’ve ever been inside, so I don’t know how big it is.
Either that or Chopstix, which rarely seems to be busy, at least when I drive past.

The only active place downtown I can think of that has a full bar, stage, game room & that much square footage is Club Silverstone.

What is that cafe in Proctor? I thought I had been everywhere there and I do not recognize that dining room. I haven’t been to The Old House cafe in a while, but I can’t imagine it changed that much!
Six Olives is not very big. Nice cozy spot, spendy yet fabulous drinks, good food, live music on occassion. I’d say it seats 40-50.
This guy, Tom, 253.988.0080, also posted a restaurant in White Center. Jake, have you heard of a property management company SDC?

Proctor location is the Old House Cafe. Club Silverstone makes sense as the owner passed away a couple of months ago.

Never heard of On the Rocks. Where is it?
I’d much prefer that someone sell Six Olives rather than the much-loved Il Fiasco. I went to Six Olives once. The band was loud and bad and the staff clearly wanted us to leave so that they could shut down early (maybe 11:00?) for the night. We mananged to convince them to bring us a round of drinks, but I’m not going back.

Erik… On The Rocks is a rather non-descript club (dark storefront) on Pacific Ave & S 8th.. across the street from Venture Bank and Teaching Toys… just down a few doors from what was Drake’s.

Enthusiastic owners are one thing. Patrons showing up is the bigger challenge.
Without patronage, no amount of enthusiasm will keep a place open.
Get out and patronize the independent restaurant. Spend 10% more to get 30% more quality.

I am very, very sad to write that I confirmed (and double confirmed) that Il Fiasco is indeed for sale. The owners made the decision to sell so that they could have more quality time together with their young family. Their next venture? Opening a daytime diner is being researched.
There is no shortage of interest in Il Fiasco. It sounds like the sale may occur quickly. May the new owners keep the vibe, the chef, and the staff.
