Love Tacoma is Back on March 6th

Love Tacoma is back for 2008. To kick off the new season, join the fine folks that love this town at Cans on March 6th. What is Love Tacoma? It’s an informal group of folks and an idea that spun out of the Creative Cities project last year. The goal is to attract, unite, and retain Tacoma’s 20 and 30 something. How? By showing you that there are others here and providing a way for us to gather. Last year was a huge success with hundreds of people showing up at events all over downtown.
It’s a new year and we look forward to meeting all of you.

Well gee. I’m in my 40s. Guess I need to stay home then. You youngins have a good time. I’ll just check out my large print READERS DIGEST mags and watch Lawrence Welk reruns instead.

Hello kc,
When you visit our www.lovetacoma.com Web site, you’ll see the following information, which we all firmly believe in:
Love Tacoma’s events are targeted at 20-to-30 somethings, but since we know that people of all ages love our city, everyone is invited to these functions and parties.
The focus is less on your age, more on LOVING TACOMA!!!!
The standard rule for most gatherings applies here: The more the merrier!
We hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Roxanne

Hopefully the police won’t have to show up as well. Nearly weekly the police and BIA have shown up because of fights breaking out at Cans on Thursday nights – one person had to be taken to the hospital after having his face smashed in with at least eight police cruisers responding and an ambulance. (Thanks to TPD for handling things so well).
A couple of weeks ago about twenty gang banger types ran down the alley that my living room looks out onto and nearly broke into a full street brawl.
I have also witnessed several intoxicated people coming from Cans and throwing up and or urinating in the street or on local businesses and screaming profanities then getting in their cars to drive.
I have not been impressed with the way Cans does business in my neighborhood and the clientele they attract seems to be gang banger types who seem to have a propensity toward violence and destruction of private property.

I know most 20-30 somethings like to drink but aren’t there other things to do around town? It seems like every Love Tacoma event has drinking involved.

Jake: If you show up on to our event on March 6 you’ll find out about the amazing events that we have in store for 2008 that include more than just assembling at a local restaurant or bar.
But bear in mind, last year Love Tacoma also held events like a hipster boutique tour and a gatering at the Tacoma Art Museum during the Third Thursday Art walk.
Laura, our event will start at 5:30 p.m. for a light-hearted happy hour function, WELL before the late-night club-goers arrive. Everyone who attends will be very safe and cared for!!!!
Cans is a great establishment and the ownership has been very kind in hosting us. We’re very much looking forward to having our event there.
Laura, if you haven’t done so already, I’d suggest that you contact the proprietors of Cans with your concerns about late-night activity.
March 6 will be an excellent time and we hope to see everyone there!!

Lovers of Tacoma…..come one, come all!!!! Urban playtime in Tacoma’s Hotspots is back and we are looking at having more fun than ever!! There are some great events planned for 2008 that provide vast networking opportunities as well!! Nearing the prime age of 40, I have found these events to be welcome to any age group—so I promise to throw my cane out if you do to!! Let’s have some fun in T-Town!!

Here I thought Green Drinks was going to be at Doyle’s on 3/6. Who made March 6th the king?

If Morgan is an old fart, I am a really old fart, But I’ll be there to prove that even seniors love Tacoma. I even have a Love Tacoma hat! I moved back last summer from Calif. after being gone 50 years. Kevin Freitas refers to me as, “The old new Tacoman”.

Smartest Person in Tacoma is at King’s Books, 5:30-9pm.
Green Drinks is at Doyle’s, 5-8pm.
And of course, Love Tacoma at Cans starting at 5:30.
So now I have to decide if I love Tacoma, love the earth, or just love my gigantic melon…

I will look for your cane, K. I only wonder what kind of canned whiskey will be in your hand!
Nightlife in Tacoma is on the rise and I am there! This playah hopes to lay his peepers on all the fly birds and hepcatz that are making the scene. Let’s throw down the jam and get wit it, y’all!! Peace.

It’s awesome to see Love Tacoma back on the radar! The few events I was at last year were really chill, and I’m looking forward to checking out Cans…another one of the hot spots around town I haven’t been to yet.
Plus, I’ve heard tidbits about the events to follow this one. Excited to see Love Tacoma BLOW UP this year and draw some huge crowds.
Congrats LT, I’ll see you there!

I’ve been to cans a few times and I’m never impressed, the space is really terrible at one end is seating and at the other end of the hall is the dj. I think they have 50cent beers for women. Going to try and make this
D drizell February 27, 2008
Sounds like a really good time—worth the 52-mile drive. I missed all the Love Tacoma events last year. When you live in Centralia it’s kinda hard to make friends under 30 who still have all their teeth and actually have a job.
Yes, Olympia is only 23 miles away, but most people under 30 there smell like they haven’t showered in months and most can’t go more than 20 minutes without using some kind of illegal drug.
Tacoma’s where it’s at! A small city where you can meet somewhat normal people who may have interests similar to yours, who are well-traveled and bright enough to carry on a conversation about something other than Britney Spears.
See you on the 6th!

Sounds like a really good time—worth the 52-mile drive.
That’s dedication.

I met so many great Tacomans last year, of all ages, I do hope you join us to learn about everything we have planned for the coming months. We plan to do big things in this town – because we Love Tacoma!
R Roxanne Murphy February 28, 2008
I think this event sounds like fun.
I’ll be there.

How lovely that Cans is hosting this event. Did someone say 50 cent beers?
D drizell March 7, 2008
Way to go Love Tacoma! Last night was a blast. It was well worth the 52-mile drive.
