Making Way For The Walker North

Last Friday demolition began on the single story building adjacent to the Walker Condominiums (see Tacoma Urbanist for early pictures).

It’s been cleared off pretty quickly with work going throughout the weekend. Eventually we expect this to be the home of the Walker North project. Until then … parking for Maxwell’s?

Anyone have any photos of before it became a pile of rubble? I can’t for the life of me remember what building was there.

You can see a portion of the building if you click on the Tacoma Urbanist link on the top of the post. The building was nothing to write home about.

Drove by @ 9:30, crews were still working in the new retail space below.

Gonna look trippy with a 7 or 8 or 9 or whatever it is now story building there. Isn’t the Walker like 7 stories?

I keep haring about some mixed-use to go where the USA of Yesteryear place is now. Anyone know anything about it?

The USA of Yesteryear will be replaced by phase 3 of the Walker development. This is the site of the rumored grocery store….

Its actually ‘USA of YesterDAY’, and unfortunately I only know that from working back in the catering area :-(

I heard that Walker North has been scrapped and this space is going to be parking for the Walker. Anyone know if that’s true? Their website is currently “under construction” so I couldn’t check that.
