Mars Hill Church To Purchase First Congregational

One of Tacoma’s historic churches will stay a church. Mars Hill Church is under contract to purchase the First Congregational Church at the corner of Division and J Streets. The Seattle based mega-church operates in fourteen locations in four states.
Our plan is to open Mars Hill Tacoma in the fall of 2013. Mars Hill Tacoma is and will be all about Jesus. Our hope is to see thousands of people come to faith in Jesus in the years ahead. Our vision and prayers are that Mars Hill Tacoma will be a church-planting church and our anchor church for South Puget Sound. As part of the Tacoma community, we seek to love, serve, and be a blessing to our city.

I, for one, welcome our new Hipster Jesus overlords.

Awesome, so we’re going from a church that accepts everyone to one that hates the gays and wants to keep women in the kitchen.

Shhhh, Scott. Don’t scare away their cool-kid target demographic with your “facts.”

I’m not a Mars Hill fan, but can’t we be satisfied that one of our historical buildings will be spared demolition? We’ve lost some neat old bldgs because no one was willing or able to repurpose a property.

I have to say that I’d rather have the building torn down, and the site become a vacant lot than to have it occupied by a bunch of self-righteous, misogynistic, gay-hating, narrow-minded, god-fearing non-thinkers. It would be less of a blight on our community.
