McMenamins Elks Temple Renovations and Stadium Way Update
UPDATE FOR THE UPDATE: Based on an updated story from the TNT we have some updates for the update.
Following on the Stadium Way project open house yesterday, The News Tribune has a short update on the impact that construction will have on the McMenamins work at the Elks Temple. Apparently, it shouldn’t interfere.
- Work to shore up and generally improve crumbling Stadium Way will begin shortly, but McMenamins and other businesses along the road will continue to have access to their properties throughout construction.
- Work at the two ends of the strip – Stadium High School and in front of the Elks building – is scheduled to wrap up later this summer.
- Last word was that McMenamins is shooting for
a 2013 St. Patrick’s Day-ishan August 2012an August 2013 opening date. But that too comes with a qualifier that we should remain “flexible” on dates. - City project manager and McMenamins’ engineer and architect have been working on dealing with a buried storage tank, sidewalk, and other connections between the two projects.
- Since the Elks on Broadway project portion fell through, McMenamins is in the process of buying the annex just north of the actual Elks Temple building to help make up for lost hotel space that would have been accommodated in the cancelled building.
- McMenamins hopes to begin work on its renovations in August of this year. Any delays will be attributed to the process of acquiring the annex, rather than the Stadium Way construction.
When a project is as highly anticipated as the McMenamins renovation of the Elks Temple, it’s hard to be patient with on-going delays. At least in this case maybe no news some news is good news…?

Reading this a little late, so probably doesn’t matter now. But I think you meant August 2013 opening date.
