Mercedes SLR McLaren For Sale Locally
The News Tribune ran a story today comparing the new Mercedes SLR Mclaren at Mercedes of Tacoma with a Chevy Aveo – probably the most and least expensive new cars in Tacoma. I’m definitely one to appreciate a nice car and car reporting. I don’t expect it from the News Tribune, but this story… I liked.
Tacoma has come a long way. Ten years ago it was a special occasion to see a high end car in town. Somebody once told me that there are actually a good number of fine cars in town. These cars are, however, parked in garages and behind gates only to come out when the time was right. He mentiond a few Bentleys, several Rolls Royces, several vintage Jaguars and Porsches, and a few large Mercedes. By day, the owners of these cars drove Volvos and Hondas. Every once in a while I would glimpse one of these cars just as the garage door would close.
Then, a few years ago, we started to notice the new BMWs, Mercedes, and very new Porsches driving down Yakima, through Proctor, or along 21st Street. The neighborhood seemed to be changing. Last year a Bentley Continental GT drove past our house. “Uh, Honey… that’s a $160k car.” Is he lost? Last fall a new Ford GT passed us as we biked to work. A few weeks ago a Maserati Quattroport passed us near Point Defiance. He must be visiting friends. The old days of subtle cars is going away. Tacoma is starting to show its money.
Anyway, back to the original story… Anybody want a car that definitely stands out in a crowd? The gullwing doors are always hit with the kids and I hear it looks nice in Crystal Galactic Black.
