Miko the Cat of King's Books Passes Away

If you've shopped at King's Books, you have probably crossed paths with Miko the cat as he patrolled the stacks, kept an eye on the register, or napped on any available surface. King's is a special bookstore and Miko has been a part of it for a long time. We have some sad news from sweet pea at King's Books about Miko.

Yesterday was a sad day. Our beloved store cat Miko passed away. He was a fighter, surviving fatty liver disease and coping with hyperthyroid and arthritis. In the end, it was his heart that did him in.

If you have been in our store you were, no doubt, greeted by our charismatic Miko. Our drooling buddy was always willing to give affection and eat any food in your possession.

Because of his iconic status, we are holding a Miko Memorial to pay tribute to his legacy. If you have a photo or memory you'd like to share beforehand, please email it to us [books@kingsbookstore.com]. Miko will be sorely missed by all.

King's will hold a Miko Memorial on Wednesday, October 29 at 7 p.m., where Miko will be remembered. Donations will be accepted to assist with cat care costs.

Few things go better with an independent bookstore than a stripey kitty. Miko, you're going to be greatly missed. RIP little buddy.

Poor kitty... But it must be a slow news month for all things Tacoma when someones cat dies and it makes Exit 133. No big ideas on the horizon for T-Town?

You obviously didn't know this cat. Also, it's on the front page of the TNT today. It's not just us.

I just reread my comment and it sounds snarky, which I did not intend. I did know about this cat and am truly sorry for the owners. The story caught me off guard considering all things Exit 133 are usually about serious business matters, real estate, and development. I haven't seen any great celebratory news for Tacoma in a while... all little stuff for a long while now. It's been slow.

I did not know that about 2 weeks ago was the last time I would see Miko. I'm glad I had the chance to give him a scratch.
